Just been reading through the SNAP changes rolling out this year and honestly, there's a lot more happening than most people realize. The snap increase in benefits for 2026 is real, but it's getting pretty complicated when you look at everything else coming down the pipeline. So here's what's actually going on. First the good news - maximum snap benefits are going up for a family of four to about $994 monthly, and the minimum is hitting $24. They bumped up the shelter deduction cap too. Looks like they're trying to account for inflation and rising food costs, which makes sense on paper. But then you've got these state-by-state food restrictions that started taking effect. Seven states got approval to ban soda, candy, and sugary drinks from SNAP purchases starting January. Texas jumped in with their own version in April targeting added sugars and artificial sweeteners. Some people are calling it a health push, others say it just adds stigma to shopping. Either way, it depends where you live. The bigger pressure point is the work requirement expansion. The new legislation basically expanded who has to work or do training - now it's ages 18 to 64 needing to hit 80 hours monthly. That's way broader than before. Caregiver exemptions got tightened too, and even some veteran exemptions changed. On one hand lawmakers are talking about reducing fraud, but on the other hand people are genuinely worried about losing benefits if they can't find work in their area. Here's where it gets real for state budgets though. Starting October, states have to cover 75% of SNAP administrative costs instead of the current 50/50 split. That's massive. States like California, Texas, Florida and New York are looking at millions in new expenses just to keep the program running. Some are already talking about slower processing or reduced outreach just to manage the hit. One thing that actually helps - internet costs now count toward utility allowances for calculating benefits. That's a practical change since internet is basically essential now for job hunting and accessing services. Some households could see higher deductions from this. The real story is that while the snap increase helps with inflation, all these other changes - restrictions, work requirements, cost shifts - are creating a pretty different landscape than what existed before. Rural areas especially are going to feel this since job opportunities might not be there to meet the new work requirements. Urban states with better job markets probably have an easier time, but everyone's dealing with the administrative burden. States are scrambling to figure out implementation. Oregon's already talking about adding error watchdogs to avoid payment error penalties. Illinois and other high-error states are under pressure since they face additional costs if their error rates stay above 6% starting in 2028. Bottom line - if you're on SNAP or know people who are, now's the time to check what's actually happening in your state. The purchase restrictions, work requirements, and eligibility rules are different depending on where you live. These aren't small adjustments. They're reshaping how the whole program works.

Meta Platforms has begun testing a new premium subscription called Instagram Plus, offering everyday users access to exclusive features as the company expands its push into paid social media tools, according to a TechCrunch report. The test follows earlier plans to introduce subscriptions across its core apps, including Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp. Instagram Plus introduces several features aimed at enhancing how users interact with Stories. Subscribers can view Stories without notifying the poster, a long-requested feature, and can also see how many people have rewatched their own Stories. The update also expands audience controls by allowing users to create multiple custom lists beyond the existing Close Friends option. Additional features include extending a Story’s lifespan by another 24 hours, spotlighting a Story once per week to increase visibility, and sending animated reactions such as a Superlike. Users can also search their Story viewer list, making it easier to check whether specific accounts have viewed their content. The subscription is currently being tested in select markets, including Mexico, Japan, and the Philippines, with pricing ranging from roughly $1 to $2 per month, depending on the region. The product is separate from Meta Verified, which is aimed at creators and businesses, signaling that Instagram Plus is designed to monetize everyday user activity rather than professional accounts. The move comes as social platforms increasingly experiment with subscription models to diversify revenue beyond advertising. Snap Inc. has seen traction with Snapchat+, which recently surpassed 25 million subscribers, while platforms like X have also introduced paid tiers with premium features. Meta said it will continue testing Instagram Plus before deciding on a broader rollout. The results will likely determine whether users are willing to pay for enhanced social features as subscription fatigue becomes a growing concern across digital platforms. **Disclosure:** This article was edited by Estefano Gomez. XRP Sentiment Just Hit a 5-Week High While Bitcoin Turns Bearish ================================================================ Sam Daodu Fri, February 27, 2026 at 2:57 AM GMT+9 4 min read In this article: XRP-USD -4.37% BTC-USD -2.02% ETH-USD -2.23% SAN-USD 0.00% ### Quick Read * XRP’s bullish-to-bearish ratio reached 2.35, a five-week high, while Bitcoin and Ethereum remain in bearish territory. * XRP ETFs logged $150M in year-to-date inflows over 40+ consecutive days while Bitcoin and Ethereum products saw outflows. * Despite bullish sentiment, XRP trades near $1.40 and maintains 1.8x downside volatility correlation to Bitcoin’s moves. * The analyst who called NVIDIA in 2010 just named his top 10 AI stocks. Get them here FREE. Something unusual is happening in crypto sentiment. Santiment data shows XRP's bullish-to-bearish ratio climbed to 2.35 this week—its highest reading in five weeks. Bitcoin sits at 1.05 and Ethereum hovers around 1.4, both in neutral-to-bearish territory. XRP is the only major token where traders are turning optimistic. The optimism is forming against a brutal backdrop. Bitcoin hovers near $65,000 after $3.8 billion in ETF outflows over five weeks. Fear is dominating the broader market, yet traders are positioning for an XRP move—whales are accumulating, institutional money is flowing in, and exchange supply is shrinking. Although none of it has translated to an XRP price surge, XRP still trades near $1.40—locked to Bitcoin's downward trajectory like every other altcoin. With market sentiment turning green for XRP, will the price break free from Bitcoin's bearish grip on altcoins? Why XRP Sentiment Is Diverging From Bitcoin ------------------------------------------- DaLiu / Shutterstock.com · DaLiu / Shutterstock.com The sentiment gap between Bitcoin and XRP didn't appear out of nowhere. Over the past few weeks, XRP has quietly stacked institutional wins that shifted investors’ sentiment. It started with partnerships. Japan's SBI Holdings launched a $65 million on-chain bond last week that pays investors in XRP—the first retail bond of its kind in a regulated market. Aviva Investors, managing over $275 billion in assets, announced plans to tokenize funds on the XRP Ledger. Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse also landed a seat on the CFTC's Digital Asset Innovation Advisory Committee. Then institutional inflows started pouring in again. XRP ETFs logged more than 40 consecutive days of inflows before pausing, pulling in roughly $150 million year-to-date while Bitcoin and Ethereum products bled. Behind the headlines, Ripple has spent nearly $3 billion on acquisitions, building custody, brokerage, and treasury infrastructure that didn't exist two years ago. Moreover, three European institutions with $3.4 trillion in combined assets have adopted Ripple infrastructure this February. The accumulation of positive catalysts is shifting how traders view XRP relative to Bitcoin. Although none of these headlines has moved the XRP price much—the advancements are showing up in sentiment before it shows up in price. Story Continues Why Bullish Sentiment Might Not Be Enough ----------------------------------------- Summit Art Creations / Shutterstock.com · Summit Art Creations / Shutterstock.com Sentiment can diverge from price for weeks, but it can also snap back without warning. XRP still trades in lockstep with Bitcoin during risk-off moves. On February 5, Bitcoin dropped 8% and XRP fell 15%—that 1.8x volatility multiplier hasn't gone anywhere. Bullish sentiment won't matter if Bitcoin breaks below $60,000 and drags the entire altcoin market with it. XRP's bullish ratio hit a 5-week high at the same time the broader Fear & Greed Index dropped to 9—its lowest reading since the FTX collapse. Those two signals don't usually coexist for long. Either XRP traders are early and the market catches up, or they're wrong and sentiment snaps back to match the fear everywhere else. Price hasn't confirmed either direction. XRP trades below its 50-day and 200-day moving averages, with sellers defending $1.51 and $1.60 on every bounce. Until price starts breaking resistance instead of fading into it, the bullish sentiment is just a bet that hasn't paid off. What Happens Next for XRP ------------------------- For the first time in months, traders are positioning bullish on XRP while staying cautious on everything else. ETF inflows are holding, whales bought the dip, and exchange supply keeps shrinking, but the XRP price hasn't responded yet. Bitcoin remains the problem—XRP doesn't break out while Bitcoin is bearish. If Bitcoin finds a floor above $70,000, XRP's bullish setup gets a chance to play out. If it doesn't, the bullish sentiment won't save it. With XRP trading near $1.4o, the key points to watch are the resistance at $1.60 and support at $1.30. Whichever breaks first will determine XRP’s near-term outlook. ### The analyst who called NVIDIA in 2010 just named his top 10 AI stocks Wall Street is pouring billions into AI, but most investors are buying the wrong stocks.
