Back when I watched the GME saga, I was like everyone else, just cursing at Robinhood for “only allowing selling, not buying.” It was only later that I learned: if the platform hadn’t halted trading during those days, it would have had to put up several times its net worth as collateral to the traditional clearinghouses. The old financial settlement system simply couldn’t handle the pace of the entire internet rushing in at once.
Someone who was on the front lines writing code back then really took this lesson to heart.
That person is @jayendra_jog, now one of the co-founders of Sei Labs.
Others watched GME for the thrilling drama;
He saw the underlying reality:
The front-end market is already real-time, global, and you can place orders with just a tap on your phone,
But the back-end settlement is still stuck in the previous era—slow, clunky, and expensive.
So he chose a different path: instead of continuing to patch up the old system, why not completely rebuild a chain born for “modern markets”? That’s what became today’s @SeiNetwork. In my view, the most impressive thing about Sei isn’t just “high TPS”—it’s a few simple, yet incredibly hard-to-achieve things:
From day one, it was designed as an “on-chain Wall Street backend,” not just a general-purpose blockchain trying to do a bit of everything
Treating “real-time settlement, verifiable execution, and global accessibility” as necessities, not optional add-ons
Setting performance targets at the 200,000 TPS level, truly leaving room for the markets of the coming decades
You might not understand all the technical details, but one thing is easy to grasp:
If another GME-level extreme event ran on a traditional settlement system, the only option would be to hit pause;
But if it ran on Sei, a backend completely rebuilt for the “modern market,” it was born for this kind of speed.
So when I talk about @SeiNetwork now, I’m not just repeating empty phrases like “powerful performance” or “fast trading.”
To me, it’s the answer created by a group of people who saw the limits of the old system firsthand and gritted their teeth to start over from scratch.
Markets will only get faster,
And Sei is the track that dares to keep up with that speed.
Markets Move Faster on Sei.
