Bells复活:致敬居家挖矿时代(的短暂一夜)

Is there anyone still mining with a home computer today in 2023?The answer is of course no, in today’s world where professional miners and mining machines are everywhere, trying to mine POW coins such as BTC with a laptop is more of a tribute to the past than an economic consideration - after all, you may not even be able to dig up electricity bills.

But this “retro” behavior has recently been revived.

On December 5, just as DOGE was approaching its 10th anniversary, two passers-by approached DOGE co-founder Billy Markus’ 2013 tweet and the cryptocurrency project he created at the time, Bells. Then they came up with a bold idea - they reached out to another developer of the LTC ecosystem and tentatively asked if they could resurrect the project on this special day.

The developer was able to get the code done in a very short time, and the project saw the light of day.

Interestingly, due to its age, the mining pool that originally served this coin has long since disappeared, and the entire chain has stopped producing blocks, leaving almost no computing power on this abandoned facility - which means that even the CPU power of an ordinary home computer can easily mine coins.

Bells’ design mechanism is interesting in that between each set of specified blocks, the coins that miners can mine are random, rather than having a fixed harvest like other POWs. If you are lucky, you can directly burst 10,000 coins at a time, and if you are unlucky, you can only get basic income.

Downloading wallets, synchronizing blocks, and starting mining – everything goes back more than a decade, with more people participating in the mining operation and all sorts of OTC groups being set up almost at the same time.

However, the advancement of computing power is faster than expected, and in just one night, the mining army has completed the transformation from CPUs to GPUs to professional mining machines. F2Pool’s announcement of support for Bells means that the chain has a mining pool service again - and at this point, the mining game has completely changed from a nostalgic retro sport to a professional competition that is no different from other POW mining.

Currently, the price of the Bel token on the OTC is close to 4 USDT, and at this price, those who rushed in early to participate in the experiment were rewarded with a lot of money.

With more and more professional miners joining, will Bells be able to maintain its current momentum and continue to grow, and will it set off a similar wave of POW craze?

It’s hard in a bear market. But in the recent FOMO mood, we leave it open.
