Golden Finance reports that, according to The Wall Street Journal, Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Amazon founder Bezos are competing to bring the multi-trillion dollar data center boom into space orbit. According to sources familiar with the matter, Blue Origin, Bezos’s company, has a team that has spent over a year researching the technology required for orbital AI data centers. Meanwhile, sources involved in the discussions reveal that Musk’s SpaceX plans to use an upgraded version of its Starlink satellites to carry payloads for artificial intelligence computation, and to include this technology as part of a stock sale, potentially valuing the company at $800 billion. It is understood that deploying satellites with powerful AI computing capabilities will face significant engineering challenges and raise serious questions about the costs associated with sending large quantities of such devices into orbit. Nonetheless, this concept continues to captivate many leaders committed to AI and space technology fields.
