On Tuesday, February 3, 2026, US President Donald Trump signed the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2026 (H.R. 7148), ending the partial government shutdown that lasted approximately four days. In a ceremony held in the Oval Office, Trump stated:
“I'm thrilled to sign the Consolidated Appropriations Act to immediately reopen the federal government and fund the vast majority of operations through the rest of the fiscal year.”
This law secured funding for the vast majority of the federal government until September 30, 2026 (the end of the fiscal year). However, funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is only valid until February 13, 2026; until that date, new negotiations will take place between Democrats and Republicans regarding immigration policies and ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) funding.
