Just realized I need to check when my Alberta child tax payment dates are coming up in 2026, so I dug into this. Turns out the CRA sends out ACFB payments four times a year by direct deposit or cheque—February 27, May 27, August 27, and November 27. Pretty straightforward if you ask me.
So here's the thing about Alberta child tax payments—you don't even have to apply. Apparently if you file your tax return and qualify for the Canada Child Benefit, you're automatically considered. The CRA just keeps reassessing based on your family income from the previous year. If your situation changes mid-year, it won't affect your current payments though. Changes kick in after you file next year's return.
The benefit amount depends on your adjusted family net income and how many kids you have. There's a base component for lower-income families (like $1,499 for the first child if your income is under $27,565) and then a working component that adds more if you're earning income. The working component maxes out once your family income hits $46,191.
One thing that's nice—these Alberta child tax payments are completely tax-free. Doesn't count as income, won't mess with your other benefits, and doesn't affect the federal Canada Child Benefit either. You can check your CRA My Account anytime to see your personalized payment dates and amounts. If a payment doesn't show up, wait five working days then contact CRA at 1-800-959-2809. Pretty organized system honestly.
