It's interesting how the list of the world's wealthiest people has reached entirely new levels at the beginning of the year. I looked at the January data and I have to say that the wealth concentration in the tech sector has become almost surreal.
Elon Musk outpaces everyone else with an estimated net worth of $726 billion. It's a figure that has no precedent in modern history, truly. The surge mainly comes from SpaceX, which continues to increase in value, Starlink, which keeps expanding, and of course his shares in Tesla. Meanwhile, he's also building an increasingly strong position in AI and neural technology.
After him, the list is dominated by the usual tech names. Larry Page in second place with $270 billion, thanks to Alphabet's control of AI. Bezos third with $255 billion, supported by AWS and Amazon's logistics machine. Then Sergey Brin, Larry Ellison, Zuckerberg, Bernard Arnault, Ballmer, Jensen Huang, and Buffett rounding out the top 10.
What do I notice when observing this list of the world's wealthiest people? Almost all the names are linked to three exploding trends: artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and the space sector. Semiconductors are making impressive numbers. American tech companies continue to dominate without competition. And most importantly, founders who have kept their shares are reaping the rewards of long-term bets that are finally paying off.
It's fascinating and a bit dystopian at the same time, this concentration of wealth in the list of the world's richest people. Hundreds of billions added in just a few months, all driven by AI and technology. If this continues, 2026 will probably be remembered as the year when global wealth completely changed shape.
