BREAKING: John Martinis, winner of the 2025 Nobel Prize in Physics and former leader of Google's quantum hardware program, warned that Bitcoin could become one of the first real targets of quantum computing.

Although he estimates that a sufficiently powerful machine could still take five to ten years, he argued that the community must begin preparing now for a transition to defenses resistant to these types of attacks.
John Martinis stated that breaking cryptography would be one of the earliest and most accessible practical applications of quantum computing.
