Just scrolled through some historical data on how U.S. Presidents' wealth changed during their time in office, and it's honestly wild how varied the outcomes were.
Some interesting patterns I noticed: guys like John Adams net worth actually decreased slightly from $800K to $700K during his presidency, which seems to be the trend for many early presidents. Meanwhile, Thomas Jefferson went from $3M down to basically $200K - that's a brutal drop. But then you've got Andrew Jackson who actually grew his wealth from $500K to $1M, one of the few who came out ahead.
Fast forward to more recent times and the story's completely different. John Adams' era was about public service costing you money, but modern presidents? LBJ went from $20M to $100M, Nixon from $2M to $15M. The biggest outlier is obviously JFK who was already sitting on around $1B before taking office.
Trump's numbers stand out too - $3B down to $2.5B, so even with a massive starting wealth, the presidency apparently still took a bite. Makes you wonder if the job actually costs these guys money or if it's just how they're reporting it. The john adams net worth comparison really highlights how different things were back then versus now.
