Geopolitical Tensions Overshadow Bitcoin, Gold, and Silver
During geopolitical tensions stemming from Iran, Bitcoin outperformed traditional safe-haven assets like gold and silver. OL
Overshadowing Gold and Silver
Analysts at a US-based financial giant noted that Bitcoin (BTC) outperformed traditional safe-haven assets like gold and silver during the Iran conflict, and that safe-haven-like demand was observed.
The team, led by Nikolaos Panigirtzoglou, stated in their report that there was a "sharp ailment" between the factors influencing Bitcoin and gold. While significant outflows have been seen from gold ETFs since the conflict, net inflows have been recorded in Bitcoin ETFs.
According to the report, the world's largest spot gold ETF experienced outflows of approximately 2.7%. Similarly, silver ETFs completely reversed the inflows accumulated since last summer. In contrast, Bitcoin ETFs saw positive capital accumulation. It was also highlighted that approximately 11 billion dollars exploded from gold ETFs in the first three weeks of March. SILVER LOST 11% OF ITS VALUE
A similar picture emerged in price performance. While Bitcoin strengthened by double digits during the period when the war began, gold lost approximately 5%, and silver fell even more sharply, around 11%. Analysts stated that net inflows and increased trading volume in Bitcoin, as well as the rise in local cryptocurrencies in Iran, were significant factors in this trend.
They argued that these developments in Bitcoin positioned it as an alternative to traditional safe havens, offering both geopolitical risk and macroeconomic returns. While a high level of growth was previously observed between gold and Bitcoin, this relationship broke with the Iranian conflict.
MARKET REACTION
Bitcoin recovered after the initial shock of the war, rising to levels around $68,000, while traditional markets, including stocks and precious metals, remained under pressure. Analysts point to increased institutional growth, risk appetite, and digital assets.
