IT Home, February 11th — According to the BBC in the UK this afternoon, the sequel to “F1: Drive to Survive” has officially begun production. This was confirmed by producer Jerry Bruckheimer during the Oscar annual luncheon.

Starring Brad Pitt, “F1: Drive to Survive” has been nominated for four Oscars, including Best Picture. One of the co-producers of the film is seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton. Pitt plays veteran driver Sonny Hayes in the film. Sonny returns to F1 after years away from the track, joining the fictional team APXGP.

Rumors about the sequel have been circulating for months, but there had been no official statement until now. During last week’s Apple TV+ media day event, this issue was still not confirmed.

According to IT Home, “F1: Drive to Survive” is currently available on the Apple TV+ streaming platform.

The production team is now pushing forward with the sequel. Bruckheimer did not disclose a specific timeline nor confirm whether Pitt will continue to star, but emphasized that he will definitely be involved in casting.

The film was released last summer, grossing $630 million worldwide (IT Home note: approximately 4.359 billion RMB at current exchange rates), roughly £467 million, making it the most successful theatrical release among Apple Originals to date. The film shot extensively on location during the 2023 and 2024 F1 seasons, with many scenes filmed at real race weekends, including the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

Bruckheimer expressed surprise at the film receiving multiple awards nominations, including Best Picture, and described working with Brad Pitt for the first time as an exciting experience.

At the Apple TV+ media day event, Apple executive Eddie Cue read a question from the audience about the sequel to “F1: Drive to Survive.” F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali responded, asking fans to stay tuned, as more information will be announced in the future.
