Investing.com – The Australian stock market closed higher on Thursday, led by gains in sectors such as energy, telecommunications services, and basic resources.
At the close in Sydney, the Australian S&P/ASX 200 Index rose by 0.88%, reaching its highest level in nearly three months.
The best-performing stock in the Australian S&P/ASX 200 Index was Hub24 Ltd (ASX:HUB), up 14.73% (12.70 points), closing at 98.94. Meanwhile, Sonic Healthcare Ltd (ASX:SHL) increased by 9.56% (2.03 points), closing at 23.27; Netwealth Group Ltd (ASX:NWL) gained 6.71% (1.70 points), ending the day at 27.05.
The weakest performer on the market was Zip Co Ltd (ASX:ZIP), which fell 33.87% (0.96 points), closing at 1.87. Lovisa Holdings Ltd (ASX:LOV) declined 11.93% (3.70 points), ending at 27.31; Wesfarmers Ltd (ASX:WES) dropped 5.64% (5.03 points), closing at 84.23.
A total of 618 stocks on the Sydney Stock Exchange rose, surpassing the 529 stocks that declined, while 392 stocks remained unchanged, essentially flat.
The implied volatility of Australian S&P/ASX 200 Index options, measured by the S&P/ASX 200 VIX, increased by 1.23% to 11.64.
Gold futures April options contracts decreased by 0.04% (2.21 points), reaching $5,007.29. In other futures markets, April WTI crude oil futures rose by 0.34% (0.22 points), trading at $65.27, while April London Brent crude oil futures increased by 0.24% (0.17), trading at $70.52.
AUD/USD remained unchanged at 0.09%, with the exchange rate at 0.70; meanwhile, AUD/JPY rose by 0.33%, quoted at 109.39.
The US dollar index futures increased by 0.06%, to 97.68.
