Thursday's big stock stories: What’s likely to move the market in the next trading session

Here’s what CNBC TV’s producers were watching as the S & P 500 posted gains for a third day, and what’s on the radar for the next session. Walmart The retail giant reports quarterly earnings on " Squawk Box " with Becky Quick, Andrew Ross Sorkin and Joe Kernen. The big show starts at 6 a.m. ET live from the Nasdaq in New York City’s Times Square. “Squawk Box” will have the numbers and the immediate stock reaction. Walmart hit a 52-week high on Tuesday, but it’s already off 6% from that level. Shares have added around 25% in the past three months. WMT 3M mountain Walmart shares in the past three months The financials The S & P sector is the best of the 11 so far this (short) week, up 1.8%. However, it’s the worst performer year to date, down almost 4.3%. Global Payments had a big day on Wednesday. Shares were up 16% in the session, rising on earnings and stronger-than-expected guidance. Fiserv and Block are up 6% and more than 7%, respectively, week to date. Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley are both up 3% in two days. Citigroup is up nearly 5% in two days, and JPMorgan is up 2% in that period. Kraft Heinz CEO Steve Cahillane will be on in the 10 a.m. hour of " Squawk on the Street " with Sara Eisen, Carl Quintanilla and David Faber on Thursday. Last week, Kraft Heinz said it would pause its proposed split . The stock is down 25% from the March 2025 high. KHC YTD mountain Kraft Heinz shares in 2026 Cushman & Wakefield The commercial real estate giant is slated to report quarterly results in the morning. Cushman & Wakefield shares have lost 8% in the past three months. The stock hit a high on Jan. 22, and it has fallen 22% from that level. Pending home sales The number will be out Thursday at 10 a.m. All the big homebuilders are up so far in 2026. Hovnanian is up about 35% this year, but shares are down 19% from the September high. PulteGroup is up 21% year to date. The stock hit a high Tuesday. Toll Brothers is up 18% in 2026. Shares are down 5% from last week’s high. KB Home is up 16% year to date. The stock is down 4% from the September high. Taylor Morrison is up 15% in 2026. Shares are off 7% from the September high.
