Accident in Monteros: two traffic tragedies result in victims in Tucumán

The Monteros region in Tucumán once again becomes the scene of tragic events following two traffic accidents that mourn the families of the victims. The incidents, occurring just days apart, highlight the severity of road conditions and raise concerns among local security agencies.

Head-on collision on Route 307: one dead and three injured

The most recent accident occurred last Saturday morning on Route 307, specifically at kilometer 3 in Acheral, when two vehicles collided under circumstances still under investigation by authorities. A Toyota Corolla traveling from Santiago del Estero carried three people, while a Chevrolet Corsa was driven by a 30-year-old man residing in Acheral.

The impact was so violent that one of the vehicles caught fire at the scene, requiring immediate emergency response. The driver of the Chevrolet Corsa died as a direct result of the crash, while the occupants of the Toyota were urgently transported to the Regional Hospital of Monteros for specialized medical care.

Condition of the injured and medical evaluations

Among the injured, various injuries were reported. One passenger suffered a right iliac crest fracture, confirmed through radiographic studies at the hospital. The Corolla driver sustained complex polytrauma requiring transfer to the Hospital of Concepción for traumatological assessment, due to suspicion of additional fractures. A third victim presented a hip trauma and deep lacerations on the right thigh and right leg.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office intervened in the case and ordered the seizure of both vehicles for forensic examinations. This investigative protocol aims to determine the exact causes of the collision.

Days earlier: tragedy at the drainage canal on Provincial Route 303

Just days before this accident in Monteros, another equally tragic event mourned the region. Three young people aged 18 to 19 lost their lives when the vehicle they were traveling in lost control on Provincial Route 303, near Los Ralos in the Cruz Alta department.

The accident occurred around 2:30 p.m. at kilometer 19, near the San Luis farm. A red Volkswagen Gol Trend traveling east-west lost control for reasons still under investigation. The vehicle skidded off the road and fell into a drainage canal beside the highway, resulting in the vehicle being fully submerged.

Identification of the victims

Delfín Gallo Police Station confirmed the deaths of the three occupants due to the impact and submersion of the vehicle. The victims were identified as Lara Martina Santillán Sánchez, 18; Cristóbal Herrera, 18; and Lucas Benjamín Herrera, 19.

Emergency response on the scene

The severity of both accidents required a large deployment of security forces and emergency teams. In the second incident, officers from local police stations worked under persistent rain to carry out rescue operations and remove the vehicle from the canal. Authorities from the Eastern Regional Unit coordinated efforts to assist the victims and gather evidence from both traffic incidents mourning Monteros and its surroundings.
