OpenAI to Launch Hardware Products in Late 2026 Following Acquisition of io Under Jony Ive's Leadership

According to reports from PANews, OpenAI has declared its full-scale entry into the hardware sector. Company policy director Chris LeHane revealed that the first hardware product is scheduled to be released in the second half of 2026.

This move is driven by the acquisition of AI hardware company io, led by design legend Jony Ive. After the acquisition, CEO Sam Altman hinted at developing simple AI devices without displays, aiming to create a unique user experience through hardware.

While the announcement is planned for the end of 2026, the specific launch date is currently being coordinated. Industry watchers are paying close attention to how OpenAI's hardware strategy will unfold.
