Web3 ecosystem is rapidly expanding, but data storage has become a bottleneck. On-chain storage is prohibitively expensive, confirmation is painfully slow, and centralized risks are high. The dream of onboarding AI data, NFTs, and RWA assets has thus been put on hold.

At this moment, Walrus Protocol stepped forward. As a decentralized storage and data availability protocol on the Sui blockchain, its approach is very clear: completely redesign the storage process.

The most innovative aspect at the technical level is the separation architecture of "control layer + storage layer." On-chain contracts only handle metadata and staking logic, while actual data storage is delegated to distributed nodes. Files are stored using erasure coding sharding; as long as some fragments are available, the entire file can be reconstructed—this scheme is 4 to 5 times more efficient than traditional full-replication storage models.

Looking at its Red Stuff encoding algorithm, the cost advantage becomes even more apparent. Compared to established storage projects like Arweave and Filecoin, costs can be reduced by 100 times, which is a crushing advantage. Plus, leveraging the Tendermint consensus mechanism from Cosmos SDK, confirmation speeds are close to real-time, finally aligning the seemingly contradictory demands of "low cost, high performance, and high reliability."

This core project supported by Mysten Labs is breaking through the ceiling of Web3 storage with practical technological innovations. The $WAL token plays the role of an ecosystem coordinator, connecting digital assets with real-world value. As AI, NFT, RWA, and other application scenarios expand, the potential for this scheme is still vast.

Cost reduced by 100 times? This feels like the next Filecoin rhythm again. Walrus's erasure coding system is indeed impressive, just not sure how it performs in practice. Finally, someone is directly addressing this storage ceiling; it was about time to do it this way. 100 times cost difference? I just want to know if it really works in real-world scenarios. The idea of a separated architecture is indeed clear, but the ecosystem's cold start might be a problem. If this time they can truly make storage cheaper, NFTs and RWA can really get on board. Wait, is this also based on Sui? Can the entire ecosystem support this wave of Walrus traffic? Honestly, erasure coding is definitely more advanced than full replication. If it really becomes 100 times cheaper... Arweave and Filecoin will be panicked. If the WAL token doesn't have strong scene support, it might be pointless. Mysten Labs played this move well, but whether it can be grounded is another matter.

100x cost reduction? That number sounds a bit suspicious; we need to wait for real on-chain data to speak. --- Walrus's architecture design is pretty good; the separation is indeed clean. The key is how to compete with Arweave. --- Once again endorsed by Mysten Labs, it seems Sui is really going to focus on storage. WAL has some potential. --- I understand erasure coding, but whether it can run stably in practice is the real test. Don’t let it be another PPT project. --- If storage costs are solved, will new bottlenecks emerge? This is a common issue in Web3. --- It seems Walrus wants to do three things at once, which is quite challenging. How to ensure none of them fall short?

Cost reduced by 100 times? How long do we have to keep hyping it up before it becomes a reality?

Cost reduced by 100 times? That's a bit of a bold claim. Let's see how it performs in practice.

Cost reduced by 100 times? Is this number real, or just another wealth creation myth What do the Arweave team think about this Can Tendermint really run stably, has it been tested in the Sui ecosystem Who guarantees the security of erasure coding sharding Will the $WAL token be another scam to fleece investors Wait, low cost and high performance, something feels off Can Mysten Labs' endorsement be trusted? It depends on how well it actually performs If this really happens, Filecoin's days will be tough

Cost reduced by 100 times? Is this number a bit exaggerated? Can it really be achieved?

Another project claiming to "solve storage problems," full of hype—has it really gone on-chain? Walrus indeed has impressive data, but Filecoin was also hyped like this in the beginning... Cost reduced by 100 times? Then why not reduce it infinitely? Wait, can the Tendermint setup really compete? I like this approach; the separation architecture really hit the point this time. A 100-fold cost advantage seems a bit suspicious; erasure coding is an old technology. The key is whether it can truly be implemented. Real talk, I’m optimistic about separating the storage layer, but ecosystem development is the real challenge. Another project on Sui—does this mean the SUI ecosystem is about to take off? $WAL token—worth jumping in? Has anyone used it? After hyping it for so long, it’s time to prove yourself. Talk with data, brother.

Sounds good, but Arweave and Filecoin are not idle either. Walrus's cost advantage is indeed impressive, 100 times what a concept... It would be great if it can be implemented. It still depends on how it performs in practice; the data on paper can be very misleading. Storage is indeed a pain point in Web3, it was about time someone took it seriously. However, I haven't heard much about how the $WAL token is empowered. I'm just worried it might be another round of hype, sticking to the old tricks. The Sui ecosystem has been making efforts recently; if it really succeeds, it could change a lot.

Cost reduced by 100 times? Arweave's team must be unable to sleep now.

100 times the cost difference? That's quite intense. Can it really compete with Filecoin?
