Many people consider Walrus's storage fund as a price stabilizer, but this is a misconception. The storage fund can indeed smooth out fluctuations, but it cannot guarantee that your fiat currency cost remains constant.
Let's look at two extreme scenarios. During a bull market frenzy, WAL prices soar, and the protocol's automatic adjustment mechanism can't keep up, so your storage bill might fluctuate daily. And in a bear market? It's even more painful — node operators find that electricity costs can't be covered, leading to many nodes going offline, network contraction, and garbage collection mechanisms quickly clearing out your cold data.
So don't expect to be worry-free after a single payment. For critical data, you need to regularly check expiration dates and account balances, especially during significant market volatility. When the economic model is out of balance, your data can easily become a target for cleanup.

This is a classic case of incentive distortion. When node operators are forced to go offline, who will maintain your data? There is simply no such thing as automatic adjustment.

Bear market node main really can't hold up, a bunch of data clearly explains everything, this is the most heartbreaking.

The mention of nodes going offline during the bear market hit too close to home; I almost lost my cold data.

Wow, this is the real truth. I used to think that the storage fund was some divine product. It seems I need to keep a close eye on the balance all the time.

One-time payment for peace of mind? Wake up, the bear market is here and your data is gone.

The part about the bear market data being cleaned up hit me. I was worried about this before...

Oh no, I really got cut again. The reserve fund is not a stabilizer at all, just a psychological comforter.

Want to relax after a one-time payment? Wake up, brother. Cold data can be eaten at any time.
