@WalrusProtocol is a decentralized data storage infrastructure project for Web3, where $WAL is not just a token but the core of the entire ecosystem. Walrus is designed as the “spine of data” for blockchain, enabling secure storage of data that is independent of centralized servers and fully permissionless.

The most notable feature of Walrus is its meticulously designed economic model. WAL is a token used for paying for storage services, but the cost is pegged to fiat value, helping users avoid market volatility. Users pay WAL upfront to store data for a fixed period, after which tokens are gradually distributed to operating nodes, creating a stable cash flow and sustainable business model.
#Walrus allocates 10% of the total WAL supply as a subsidy fund, helping users access storage services at low costs during the initial phase, while still ensuring profits for nodes. This is a smart bootstrapping strategy to quickly expand the network.
Regarding security, Walrus employs a Delegated Staking mechanism. WAL holders can stake to protect the network, with nodes competing to attract stakes and data being distributed based on reputation. In the future, a slashing mechanism will be activated to penalize poorly performing or malicious nodes.
The system operates under a decentralized governance model, where voting power is proportional to the amount of WAL staked. Nodes—those directly affected by network quality—will decide on penalty levels and operational parameters. Walrus is not a project chasing trends but an essential infrastructure piece for Web3.
