Walrus, a storage protocol on the Sui ecosystem, has been quite interesting lately. Its goal is to provide a privacy-first, truly decentralized storage option—using the WAL token to incentivize the entire network operation.

Let's start with the core technical solution. Walrus uses erasure coding to split files into multiple encoded fragments, adding redundant data and dispersing storage. This way, even if some nodes go offline or are attacked, the remaining fragments can quickly reconstruct the original data. It sounds similar to Reed-Solomon codes, but Walrus is optimized for blockchain features. Coupled with Sui's parallel processing, it can achieve sub-second data retrieval.

Blob storage is another highlight. Ordinary blockchains are limited by block size and can't store large files. Walrus uses Blob to store videos, datasets, enterprise archives, and other large data collections in blocks, completely solving this bottleneck. According to testing data, uploading a 1GB file takes only one-third of the time compared to traditional IPFS solutions, with over 80% cost savings. This means better solutions for NFT storage, decentralized CDN, and enterprise backup systems.

In terms of privacy, Walrus integrates privacy black technologies like zero-knowledge proofs and ring signatures, enabling truly private transactions and data access. Want a storage solution that is cheap, secure, and resistant to censorship? Walrus is worth paying attention to.

reed-solomon erasure codes on chain... subsecond retrieval? nah this is just statistical arbitrage waiting to happen. someone's gonna find the pricing inefficiency here lol

Oh wow, is this speed three times faster than IPFS? I feel like it's just bragging... I need to look at on-chain data to speak for itself. Sub-second retrieval? No way, otherwise the flow of large wallet data would be exposed. Saving 80% of costs, will the WAL token be crazily dumped... I need to keep an eye on it. The zero-knowledge proof system, politely speaking, is about privacy; harshly speaking, it’s about not wanting to be tracked, right? Another storage project in the Sui ecosystem, it’s somewhat promising, but I need to see who’s hoarding WAL before deciding whether to follow. Reed-Solomon optimization sounds good, but I’m just worried the team might run away and have to fix bugs ten more times before they leave. This setup feels like an upgraded version of IPFS, but how different can it really be... I might be overthinking it.

Sub-second retrieval is truly exceptional, being three times faster than IPFS and 80% cheaper in cost. Who can withstand this?

Walrus's speed really impressed me. It's three times faster than IPFS and much cheaper in cost. It all feels a bit unreal.

Is this speed three times faster than IPFS? That's a bit exaggerated, isn't it? It depends on how it performs in actual operation.
