Global investment powerhouse Carlyle Group Inc. (CG) has named Harvey Schwartz, the former President and Co-Chief Operating Officer of The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc., to lead the firm as Chief Executive Officer and Board member, with the leadership transition taking effect on February 15, 2023.

The appointment resolves Carlyle’s leadership gap that emerged after Kewsong Lee’s exit in August 2022. Meanwhile, Bill Conway, who has been serving as Interim Chief Executive Officer, will return to his role as Co-Chairman of the Board, concluding his temporary operational duties.

Schwartz’s Executive Credentials

At 58 years old, Schwartz brings extensive financial sector expertise to Carlyle. His career at Goldman Sachs, which began in 1997, encompassed multiple high-profile positions, including Chief Financial Officer, demonstrating his proficiency in both operational and financial management. Before his time at Goldman Sachs, Schwartz accumulated over a decade of experience across major financial institutions, notably serving at Citicorp from 1990 through 1997.

This extensive background in elite financial institutions positions Schwartz to navigate Carlyle’s complex investment portfolio and drive strategic growth during a critical period for the global investment management sector.
