2025 Crypto Hacker Review: $3.3 billion stolen, Supply Chain becomes the biggest killer

Abstract generation in progress

[Bit推] Security data is here. According to data from blockchain security agencies, crypto assets hackers have stolen $3.3 billion so far this year. Sounds like a lot? What's even more distressing is that just two supply chain vulnerability incidents have resulted in losses of $1.45 billion—like the $1.4 billion hacking attack on a leading trading platform in February, which directly struck a nerve with everyone.

On average, each attack causes a loss of 5.3 million dollars, a figure that has surged by 66% compared to last year, indicating that the destructiveness of single events is escalating.

But there is an interesting contrast here: although the single loss is increasing, the total number of hacker incidents has significantly decreased, down by 162 compared to the same period last year. Why? Because the security of the protocol layer is indeed improving, and the vulnerabilities in the underlying code are becoming more difficult to exploit. Attackers are being forced to change their tactics - they have started to turn to phishing scams and infrastructure-level attacks.

This fact has also been confirmed. Phishing scams have now become the second largest threat, with investors losing a total of $722 million in 248 incidents. It seems that to truly protect one's assets, technological defenses are only one aspect; enhancing personal security awareness may be even more crucial.

The Supply Chain is really the biggest loophole, 1.45 billion just disappeared like that, it's a bit hard to bear.
