Aptos introduces quantum-resistant signature schemes, bringing a new upgrade to account security

Abstract generation in progress

【Blockchain Rhythm】Aptos ecosystem makes another big move. The recently proposed AIP-137 improvement proposal has attracted a lot of attention, with the core content being support for quantum-resistant digital signature schemes at the account level.

In simple terms, this is a layout for the future. As quantum computing technology develops, existing cryptographic mechanisms may face risks, and Aptos is clearly doing its homework in advance. They plan to introduce a hash-based signature scheme, SLH-DSA, which has long been standardized as FIPS 205, ensuring technological maturity.

Even better, this upgrade is implemented in an optional manner, without forcing changes to existing accounts. Users can choose whether to enable quantum-resistant signatures, allowing for parallel operation of old and new, with flexible compatibility. This gradual security upgrade approach seems quite clever.

Quantum Computing hasn't arrived yet, and we're already starting to defend. This operation is indeed forward-looking. Aptos didn't force an update this time; instead, they gave users the choice. I respect this logic. While others are still competing on performance, they are already focusing on security. It's quite interesting. Real large holders will definitely enable this feature; it's more secure. To be honest, the endorsement of FIPS 205 carries weight; it's not done randomly. I'm just afraid that users are too lazy, and those who need to upgrade will still procrastinate... This is what a responsible public chain should do; thumbs up.

Quantum computing is still a long way off, and Aptos is already thinking about this now, which is indeed a bit ahead of its time.

Here we go again with the fancy tricks. Quantum signatures should have been implemented a long time ago. --- Wow, finally a chain seriously considering the post-quantum era. --- I have to give credit for the optional approach. Not forcing account changes really makes things much easier. --- FIPS 205 has been standardized, Aptos is not bragging this time. --- I just want to know how much gas it will cost to enable this... --- Planning ahead for quantum risks is much smarter than some chains. --- Wait, old accounts don't need to upgrade? Doesn't that still pose security risks?

Quantum computing is still in its early days, so why start preparing in advance... But indeed, Aptos's approach this time is quite good. --- Optional activation? That’s comfortable, no need to be forced to upgrade. --- FIPS 205 has already been standardized. The technology is okay, but can regular users really feel the difference? --- Planning ahead to resist quantum attacks, it seems Aptos is thinking long-term. Okay. --- Progressive implementation without mandatory changes, I like this. Giving users the choice is the right way to go. --- Saying it is easy, doing it is hard. The key is whether there will be any issues during actual deployment. --- Quantum-resistant signatures, such things are probably still too early to discuss... --- AIP-137, another bunch of improvement proposals. The core looks pretty good. --- Compatible with old and new schemes? Such an upgrade approach is definitely more popular than forced migration. --- How far is the threat of quantum computing? It feels like an old topic that’s been discussed many times.

Planning ahead for quantum resistance is truly a brilliant move. Don't panic until quantum actually arrives.
