The team built several features on top of it before. Honestly, if they just removed the sharding mechanism, the whole blockchain would actually be quite practical and functional. Sometimes the simplest approach works best.

Removing sharding would be perfect, right... Easy to say, but when it comes to running data online, it's a whole different story.
