The bamboo took 4 years to grow only 3 centimeters, and starting from the 5th year, it grew crazily at a speed of 30 centimeters per day, reaching 15 meters in just 6 weeks. In fact, during the previous 4 years, the bamboo extended hundreds of square meters in the soil.

Learn "growth" from bamboo
30 centimeters a day, that's the speed of growth; in 6 weeks it reaches 15 meters, that's vigorous vitality. While we are astonished by the explosive growth of the bamboo, have we ever wondered why it only grew 3 centimeters in the first 4 years of its planting?
These 3 centimeters are the 3 centimeters that solidify the foundation; these 4 years are the 4 years that refine character. The Mao bamboo understands the principle that "only with deep roots can the leaves flourish, and only by enduring loneliness can one hold onto prosperity," therefore the initial 4 years of growth are not due to inability, but rather due to choice.
This "not for" is the source of the extraordinary growth power of the Moso bamboo, nurturing the wisdom of growth.
Everyone might want to think about how long it takes to grow 3 centimeters? A full 4 years! From spring to summer, through autumn and winter; countless flowers compete in beauty, and countless plants wither and flourish; during this time, the moso bamboo has to endure how much ridicule and sarcasm, and how much loneliness and solitude? But the moso bamboo endured, silently extending its roots in the soil for hundreds of square meters, laying a solid foundation for the explosion of growth power. Isn't this great wisdom?
In this case, a solid foundation is the secret to the explosive growth of bamboo. So how can we establish a solid foundation?
First of all, there must be a firm belief and a spirit of overcoming difficulties. The bamboo faces solid soil and endless darkness; without a firm belief, one will be timid and hesitant; without the spirit of overcoming difficulties, one will be at a loss. The lovely bamboo is like a pure iceberg, above the sea, it appears as a small, crystal-clear figure; yet beneath the blue, it shows a majestic stature like Mount Tai. "The soft is the strength of the hard; the weak is the strength of the strong," true strong individuals often show weakness rather than strength, just like the early bamboo; after four years, the strong nature is fully revealed, becoming the fastest-growing plant, towering high and forming a magnificent forest.
Secondly, we must not be impatient and should not rush for quick results. Mr. Lu Xun said that whether a genius can emerge depends on whether there is soil that nurtures geniuses. As bystanders, we should learn to be quiet watchers, patiently waiting for the bamboo to grow and the flowers to bloom. Li Shizhen spent 39 years writing "Compendium of Materia Medica"; Marx took 40 years to write "Capital"; Cao Xueqin spent ten years revising "Dream of the Red Chamber" and made five revisions; Lu Yao spent more than two years just gathering materials for "Ordinary World." Yuan Longping worked tirelessly in the fields for decades and faced setbacks when being evaluated as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; Tu Youyou worked silently in the laboratory for decades and only became known to the world after winning the Nobel Prize. Truly great achievements are not accomplished overnight; a desire for quick results can only lead to great outcomes being stillborn.
Finally, be good at absorbing nutrients. The "soil" where the bamboo grows can be both barren and fertile; when facing "barren" conditions, bamboo finds ways to circumvent it, making its roots more resilient and extensible; at the same time, it tightly wraps around and absorbs useful components, keeping itself grounded. When facing "fertile" conditions, bamboo freely absorbs nutrients while maintaining the vitality of the land in moderation, allowing it to have no worries.
Growth is a long process, and many unexpected difficulties will surely arise during it; for example, ahead may still be a harsh glacier or a surging angry sea. But we must learn from the moso bamboo's "doing without doing," firm in our beliefs and facing challenges head-on, without haste or impatience.
