Elon Musk officially leaves the Trump administration, ending the federal government reform mission.

On May 29, Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced via social media X that his tenure as a "special government employee" under the Trump administration is coming to an end, expressing gratitude to the president for the opportunity to promote government efficiency reforms. Shortly after, an anonymous White House official also confirmed the news, stating that Musk's departure process will begin tonight local time.

There are analytical views that believe Musk's departure was directly triggered by differences with Trump on fiscal policy. Just one day before his resignation, he publicly criticized Trump's promoted "Big and Beautiful Act" as a "massive spending bill," arguing that the act increased the federal deficit and undermined the reform achievements of his led Government Efficiency Department (DOGE). DOGE had previously claimed to have cut government spending by $17.5 billion, but it has fallen far short of the promised trillion-dollar target.

The market reaction is positive, with analysts suggesting that this is Musk's "graceful exit," as Tesla shareholders, in particular, welcome Musk's return to the company. During his tenure at the Department of Efficiency, Musk led a massive layoff of federal agencies, including reducing the National Security Council from 300 people to 50. However, these radical reforms also sparked legal challenges and public controversy.

As his term comes to an end, Musk stated that he will refocus on business projects such as Tesla, SpaceX, and the X platform, while reducing his political involvement. Observers pointed out that although this tech mogul's political attempts were brief, they profoundly influenced the operation of the U.S. federal government, and the DOGE model he created may continue to play a role.

Conclusion:

Elon Musk's brief political career can be regarded as a typical example of tech elites crossing into politics. Although his "streamlined government" reforms driven by entrepreneurial thinking have sparked controversy, they provide a new approach to enhancing the efficiency of federal agencies.

As this "Silicon Valley Iron Man" returns to the business arena, it is worth observing how his political legacy will continue to influence the operational model of Washington.

Do you agree with Musk's approach to managing government operations in the same way he runs his companies? With his departure, will the reforms he initiated for DOGE continue to be effective?
