Trump has changed his mind again! The deadline for tariff negotiations between the United States and the European Union has been extended to July 9.

According to foreign media reports, on the 25th local time, Trump stated that he agreed to the EU's request to extend the negotiation deadline for the originally planned 50% tariffs on the EU, which were set to take effect on June 1. He also described the talks with the EU as "very pleasant."

However, just a few days ago on the 23rd, Trump made strong statements on social media, claiming that the establishment of the EU was to "take advantage of the United States," that the US-EU negotiations were "making no progress," and threatened to impose a 50% tariff on goods from the EU starting June 1, unless those goods were made in the United States.

In response to Trump's "extortion", the EU has taken a tough stance. European Commission Executive Vice President Teresa Riber stated that the EU "will not back down" and will not accept conditions that completely go against the interests of European businesses and society.

Bernd Lange, the chairman of the European Parliament's International Trade Committee, also emphasized that the EU will not make concessions on key issues, and if the United States just wants the EU to accept everything without question, that is "knocking on the wrong door."

Currently, the negotiations between the US and Europe have once again fallen into a stalemate. Reports indicate that the US is demanding unilateral concessions from the EU to open its market to American companies, while the EU is seeking an agreement that takes into account the interests of both sides.

German Minister of Economy and Energy Katherina Reiche and Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin both stated that there are no winners in a tariff conflict, which will cause equal damage to both sides.

German Vice Chancellor and Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil also pointed out that raising tariffs would harm the U.S. economy as much as it would harm Germany and the EU, creating a "lose-lose" situation. He urged the U.S. to negotiate seriously and emphasized that if the U.S. and EU cannot reach an agreement, the EU will unite and take decisive countermeasures.

Currently, the tariff tug-of-war is still ongoing, with both sides refusing to yield. Let's wait and see what the final outcome will be!

Conclusion:

"Trump's tariff stick" has been tried and tested, but this time the EU seems determined to stand firm. Behind this game of chess is not only a contest between unilateralism and multilateralism, but also concerns the future of the global economic order.

In conclusion, there are no winners in a trade war, and the ones who will ultimately suffer are the ordinary people. Whether the US and Europe can reach a compromise not only concerns the interests of the US and Europe, but will also affect the future direction of the global economy.
