On March 29, MSC Cruises’ MSC Bellissima berthed at the Shanghai Wusongkou International Cruise Port under the MSC Mediterranean Cruises brand, completing the company’s first China mainland call on its inaugural around-the-world itinerary. The 132-day world cruise carried about 2,000 international passengers from more than 20 countries and regions to Shanghai for shore excursions, marking a landmark event as MSC Cruises enters the China market for its 20th anniversary.

It is reported that this route departs from Europe, passes through 33 countries and regions across five continents, and Shanghai serves as the core home port for its Asia segment. The ship will complete its refurbishment in December 2025, with an overall gross tonnage of approximately 95,000 tons, a maximum passenger capacity of 3,223 people. The renovation adds yacht club staterooms, themed dining, and leisure facilities. This itinerary also introduces the Chinese company Unitree Technology’s intelligent quadruped robot dogs to board and provide entertainment services.

An MSC Cruises spokesperson said that the Chinese market has shifted from being a source of passengers to becoming an important destination for global itineraries. The company is also advancing sales for around-the-world itineraries in 2027 and 2028: the 2027 itinerary lasts 121 nights and covers 45 destinations across 25 countries; the 2028 itinerary lasts 116 days and passes through 42 destinations in 29 countries. Both itineraries will be sailed by MSC Bellissima, departing from Genoa, Italy.
