Wu Xiaoqiu: Don’t be too afraid of, or too worried about, market fluctuations

China News Service, March 27 (Xue Yufei) — At the 2026 Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference, Wu Xiaoqiu, Dean of the National Institute of Financial Research at Renmin University of China, said that there is no need to be too afraid of or too worried about market fluctuations, as the market trend has not changed. He said that the recent series of reforms is also intended to keep the market on an upward trend. He added that it is necessary to substantially increase the criminal costs for violations and illegal conduct in the capital markets, moving from the past model of administrative penalties to a legal framework centered on criminal punishment and civil compensation.
