Global oil prices surge.

International oil prices suddenly spike. As of this report, WTI crude oil futures are up over 5%, breaking through $98 per barrel; Brent crude oil futures are up over 4%, approaching $105 per barrel.

According to CCTV News, the Israel Defense Forces announced on the 17th local time that they launched large-scale strikes in Tehran, Iran, and Beirut, Lebanon. An IDF spokesperson said the targets were infrastructure belonging to Iran and Hezbollah.

On the same day, the UK Maritime Trade Operations said a tanker anchored in the Gulf of Oman was attacked by an unidentified projectile. Reports indicate minor structural damage, with no injuries.

The office stated in a release that the incident occurred 23 nautical miles east of Fujeirah, UAE (about 42.6 km), with no environmental pollution reported. No further details were provided.

Additionally, Iranian Foreign Minister Amir Abdollahian held a press conference in Tehran on March 16. Abdollahian emphasized that Iran has not signaled a ceasefire request, but the war must end in a way that guarantees “no more aggression.”

He stated that last June, the US and Israel launched a “12-day war” against Iran, demanding unconditional surrender. Now, the US is playing the same “drama,” attempting to force Iran to surrender again. Abdollahian said the war has lasted over two weeks, and the US is seeking help from many countries for “security of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.” From Iran’s perspective, the Strait is open and unobstructed, but for Iran’s enemies and their allies, it is closed.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Hatiqzadeh warned the US on March 16 in an interview, “Do not send ground troops to Iran.” He pointed out that deploying troops to another country, invading, and occupying its territory is very wrong, reckless, and illegal — and the US dares to do so because “power has blinded them.”

Hatiqzadeh warned those initiating this war and invading Iran to immediately stop this “illegal, reckless, and rogue behavior,” and stated that Iran has no choice but to defend itself and retaliate against those who launched this invasion.
