African Stock Market Closing Report | South African Stocks Rise Over 2.7%, Mining Stocks Lead

On Wednesday, February 18th, the South Africa FTSE/JSE Africa Top 40 Trading Index closed up 2.74%, approaching 114,500 points. The component stock Glencore (GLN.SJ) rose 6.39%, driven by Palabora Platinum Holdings (IMP) which increased 6.30%, Valterra Platinum rose 5.41%, AGL (Australian Gas Light) gained 5.23%, Harmony Gold (HAR) increased 4.59%, Sasol (SOL) rose 4.37%, Anglogold Ashanti (ANG) gained 4.20%, and Northam Platinum performed eighth with a 3.45% increase. Spot gold temporarily surged over 2.5%, reaching a daily high of $5,008.98 per ounce.
