Quantum Computing threatens Bitcoin? Industry insiders: Don't exaggerate, it will take another 30-50 years.

Abstract generation in progress

[Chain News] Is the threat of quantum computing to Bitcoin really that urgent? Recently, this topic has sparked a discussion in the community. Some have begun to emphasize the potential risks of quantum computing to Bitcoin, while others are not so convinced.

A pool manager bluntly stated that at this stage, quantum computing is more of a “bubble” and is far from being a cause for concern. He provided a more realistic prediction: even at the pace of development according to Moore's Law, it will take another 30 to 50 years for quantum computing to pose a substantial threat to secp256k1 (the Bitcoin elliptic curve encryption standard, which is used for address generation and signing).

In other words, this is not something for this year or next year; it's still quite early. The current security model of Bitcoin does not show any urgent risks, so there is no need for everyone to overinterpret.

30 to 50 years? Dude, are you comforting us? --- Here we go again, hype first and then talk, whether it's true or not has to be said once. --- Bubble? Wake up, it's a arms race now, okay? --- In 50 years, I might be long gone, let's make money this year first. --- The Mining Pool boss is so confident, why shouldn't I believe it... --- Anyway, I don't understand, just listen to the rise and that's it. --- Worried about 30 years? I don't even know how much the coin will fall next year.

Things 30-50 years from now, we still need to be alive, so let's not worry too much for now.

30-50 years? I'm afraid I won't make it to that day, haha --- Here comes another wave of FUD, just bored and causing trouble --- The mining pool manager's words are reliable, stop creating anxiety all day --- Quantum computing is still being hyped, let's solve the current problems first --- Alright, anyway, I definitely won't hold onto my coins until then --- The bubble talk is good, compared to the quantum threat, I'm more worried about regulation --- Waiting 50 years? I would have been played for a sucker by then, there are many problems now --- Isn't this just another "wolf is coming" story? --- Upgrading protection early is never wrong, don't be so negative --- If it really comes, there will still be a bunch of years to mess around, what's the rush?

After blowing the quantum threat for so many years, it really won't come until we all retire, haha 30 to 50 years? By then, who will still be using this trap of cryptography? It will have been upgraded long ago. The bubble is indeed a bubble. It's more practical to focus on macro policies than to worry about this. The industry is again selling anxiety, with a new "deadly threat" every year. At this rate, before quantum arrives, our cold wallets will have to be passed to the next generation. Still, the same saying: the Bitcoin death predictions have been shouted for over ten years, 🤷 Technological iterations will catch up. Don't think so far ahead; the current risks are much greater. This is rational analysis, unlike some self-media that creates panic every day.

In 30 years, I might have already become an immortal, so what is there to worry about?

We still have to wait 30 to 50 years, by then we'll all be in the grave, haha The talk about Quantum Computing is just to scare newbies; the real threat will come when my grandchildren are old. Instead of worrying about Quantum Computing, it’s better to first worry about the safety of your Private Key... Let's talk about it again in 30 years; why think so much now? The exchange blowing up is the real threat. What the Mining Pool guy said is reliable; a bubble is just a bubble, no need to overemphasize it. To put it simply, someone is just hyping this concept to scare retail investors. I just want to ask, when the threat of Quantum Computing comes, will there be newer protection solutions? Stop the awkward boasting, this matter is not something our generation needs to worry about.
