Polymarket launches independent L2 development plan to break free from Polygon network dependency
【ChainNews】Polymarket recently experienced an embarrassing downtime event—the culprit was an issue with its underlying Polygon network. Although the official team has not made an official statement yet, internal discussions about major actions are already underway.
According to leaks from the Discord community, the Polymarket team has decided to build its own infrastructure and develop an independent Layer2 network. The logic behind this is clear: relying on others is less reliable than relying on oneself. Past network disruptions have served as lessons, and now they aim to completely shed the limitations imposed by Polygon.
Team member Mustafa revealed on the official Discord that this is currently the top priority. He used the phrase “top priority” and confidently stated that progress will be made quickly. While specific timelines and technical details are still confidential, he emphasized that this is to achieve platform stability and independence.
It is worth noting that not long ago, the Polygon Foundation admitted that their PoS network experienced a failure affecting some RPC nodes. The good news is that all functions have now been restored to normal. However, this incident also served as a wake-up call for Polymarket—the risks of long-term reliance on a single Layer1 should not be underestimated. Building an independent L2 might be the only way out.
