CEX once donated 200,000 USD BNB to cancer patients in Malta, which is now worth 37 million USD.
On October 14, CEX and its users donated $200,000 worth of crypto assets to a charity in Malta that assists terminally ill cancer patients in 2018. However, this donation has remained unused to this day, and due to the rise in coin prices, it is now valued at approximately $37 million. The funds originated from a charity event by CEX Charity in 2018 and have been sitting idle in the receiving wallet since then. The total donation amounted to 30,644 BNB, which was worth about $200,000 at the time. At current prices, the same amount of BNB is now worth nearly $37 million. CEX stated in 2021: "With the rise in prices of these crypto assets, this fund can now help more people in need." However, the relationship between CEX and the Malta Community Foundation (MCCF) has not been amicable. In 2021, MCCF threatened to sue CEX on the grounds that CEX failed to submit the accounts for 2018, 2019, and 2020, and repeatedly ignored annual reporting reminders. However, a few days later, these accounts were 'found,' and the lawsuit threat was subsequently withdrawn. According to the Malta Times, CEX has been waiting since 2021 for MCCF to verify patient information, including medical transaction history and crypto wallet addresses. However, MCCF has refused to provide CEX with this patient information, leading to a deadlock in the fund transfer.
