Jin10 data reported on September 17 that informed sources revealed that U.S. Trade Representative Greer is expected to meet with South African Trade Minister Parks Tau on Thursday in an effort to resolve the tariff deadlock. The sources indicated that the meeting will take place during the South African delegation's visit to New York for the United Nations General Assembly. Since Trump took office in January, U.S.-South Africa relations have continued to deteriorate, with the American leader previously making baseless accusations of "genocide against whites" in South Africa. The South African trade negotiation team has submitted a revised proposal to the Trump administration, seeking to reach an agreement to drop the 30% tariff imposed by the U.S. on certain export goods from this largest economy in Africa. However, the South African government stated that the U.S. has not yet responded to its trade proposals—these include facilitating U.S. companies' sales of chicken and pork in South Africa, as well as a commitment to purchase liquefied natural gas from the U.S.
