The reporter learned from the project construction site that Hainan Province’s key energy storage and transportation project—the CIIC Yangpu Oil Storage T1 tank farm crude oil tank expansion project—is seizing the construction “golden season” to speed up development. The project will build four additional crude oil storage tanks, each with a single-tank capacity of 100,000 cubic meters. At present, all construction work is proceeding in an orderly manner.

At the project site, machinery roars and operations are busy, with construction progress steadily moving forward. As of now, the project has completed earthwork backfilling, foundation work for the ring wall of tank No. 3, works on the equipment cabinet room, the electrical distribution room, and other main construction tasks. The foundation work for the ring wall of tank No. 4 and the pile foundation engineering will also be fully completed in the near term. Next, it will enter key construction stages such as welding of the tank bodies, installation of pipe rack structures, and laying of power cables.

The project plans to build four external floating roof crude oil storage tanks. Each tank is 80 meters in diameter and 21.8 meters in height. The tank farm will use advanced external floating roof triple-sealing technology, which can effectively reduce oil evaporation losses and improve safety in oil storage and transportation as well as environmental protection standards. The project will also build 2 oil-contaminated waste oil storage tanks of 300 cubic meters each, 2 wastewater storage tanks of 5,000 cubic meters each, and related supporting facilities. In addition, it will concurrently construct auxiliary facilities such as a foam station, an electrical distribution room, an on-site equipment cabinet room, a hazardous chemicals warehouse, and a spare parts and spare components warehouse.

After the project is completed, it will significantly enhance the crude oil storage and turnaround capacity in the Yangpu Port area, help drive the development of surrounding petrochemical enterprises, and promote industrial clustering. It will also support Danzhou Yangpu in building a petrochemical industry cluster and a petrochemical new materials industrial base on the scale of one trillion yuan, further strengthening regional energy security safeguards.

“After the project is completed, the company’s ability and flexibility to serve customers will be significantly improved. We can provide customers with more efficient warehousing and distribution services. The project is expected to enter trial operation in February 2027,” said Shen Cunz h ong, Deputy Manager of the Capital Construction Engineering Department of CIIC (Yangpu) Oil and Gas Storage and Transportation Co., Ltd.
