Phoenix News Tech, March 5 — After Alibaba approved Tongyi Labs’ Lin Junyang’s resignation request, the relevant leader from the Google DeepMind development team, Omar Sanseviero, publicly extended an olive branch to the Qwen team.

“Friends of Qwen: If any of you want a new platform, and would like to build excellent models together and contribute to the open-source model ecosystem, feel free to contact me. There are many exciting projects still in our plans, and there is a lot to look forward to in the future.”

According to information, Omar Sanseviero is a very active and well-known figure in the fields of AI open source and developer experience. He currently serves as the Head of Developer Experience at Google DeepMind. He leads a global team responsible for improving the developer experience of AI products under Google DeepMind, mainly involving: the Gemini API, Gemma (the open-source model family), AI Studio, and other generative AI tools (such as Veo, etc.).

Today, Alibaba CEO Wu Yongming responded in an internal email to Lin Junyang’s departure. He said that the company approved Lin Junyang’s resignation and thanked him for his past contributions in the role. Wu Yongming, Jing Ren, and Fan Yu coordinated group resources to support foundational model development. They will continue to adhere to the open-source model strategy and steadily increase investment in AI R&D and talent recruitment.

Not long ago, as the person in charge of Qianwen Technology, Lin Junyang also responded to Musk’s praise for Qianwen.

In the early hours of the 4th, Lin Junyang announced on X that he was leaving the Qianwen team. He said, “I’m stepping down. Bye my beloved Qwen.”

That same day, Lin Junyang posted on his Moments to respond to his stepping down. He said, “Sorry, friends. I won’t be replying to messages or calls today—I really need to rest. Brothers of Qwen, continue with the original plan, no problem.”
