Merck responds to layoffs at U.S. vaccine factory: HPV vaccine production line shutdown will result in approximately 150 employees being laid off

Regarding the layoffs at the Durham facility in North Carolina, USA, on March 5, it was learned from Merck & Co. that, due to a decline in global demand for HPV vaccines, the company has decided to optimize its production capacity. Its HPV vaccine production line at the Durham site will be shut down, and about 150 employees will be affected. Merck & Co. said that the company has been continuously assessing its operating conditions and business changes, and will make corresponding adjustments when necessary to ensure that its manufacturing and production network can supply medicines and vaccines in a stable and compliant manner. In addition, Merck & Co.’s HPV vaccines continue to be supplied steadily in the Chinese market. (Jiemian News)
