A pro-Iranian hacking group claimed to have breached the private email inbox of FBI Director Kash Patel and posted some of its contents online.

Israeli cybersecurity company Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. said that these emails mainly included personal information, photos, and financial data. Media reports could not independently verify the authenticity of these emails, but the hackers claimed the breached email address had previously been associated with Patel’s personal profile, including his home address.

In a statement on Friday, the FBI said it had noticed malicious actors launching attacks targeting Patel’s private email inbox information. “The relevant information is historical in nature and does not involve any government information.”

Reuters previously reported on the incident involving the compromise of Patel’s email inbox.

The U.S. Department of Justice said that the organization Handala, which claimed responsibility for the attack, is affiliated with Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security.
