A federal judge in Washington, D.C. temporarily halted the construction of the White House’s new banquet hall on Tuesday. President Donald Trump had heavily promoted the project.

In his order, District Court Judge Richard Leon barred Trump administration officials and the chief of the president’s executive office from “taking any action to advance the physical development work for a banquet hall planned to be built on the former East Wing site of the White House.”

Leon said the order will take effect within 14 days. This buffer period allows Trump to appeal the order.

The ruling was a win for the National Trust for Historic Preservation in the United States, which previously sued the National Park Service and other defendants to block the banquet hall project.
