According to reports, an Iranian source told CNN on Tuesday that “contact” has emerged between the United States and Iran, and that Iran is willing to listen to “sustainable” proposals intended to end the war.

The source said: “In recent days, the United States has made outreach to Iran, but it has not yet reached the level of comprehensive negotiations. The two sides have conveyed information through multiple intermediaries to test whether an agreement to end the war can be reached.”

“A proposal being discussed at this time is not only aimed at achieving a ceasefire, but also at reaching a specific agreement to end the U.S.-Iran conflict.” The source added, but did not reveal any further details.

The source declined to comment on public remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump about negotiations, and emphasized that Iran’s position has always been clear: Tehran is willing to consider any viable proposal.

“Iran has not requested a meeting with the United States or direct dialogue, but if there is a sustainable proposal that can safeguard the national interests of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Iran is willing to listen,” the source said.

“Iran is prepared to provide all necessary assurances, to commit to never developing nuclear weapons, but Iran has the right to peacefully use nuclear technology.” The source insisted that any proposal must include the removal of all sanctions imposed on Iran.
