Latest response.

This morning, Alibaba CEO Eddie Wu Yongming responded in an internal email to the matter of Lin Junyang’s resignation. He said that the company will continue to adhere to its open-source model strategy, while steadily increasing AI R&D investment and efforts to attract outstanding talent.

The full text of the email is as follows

To all members of the Tongyi Laboratory:

The company has decided to approve Lin Junyang’s resignation. Thank you for the contributions Lin Junyang has made in his role. Jingren will continue to lead the Tongyi Laboratory in advancing the follow-up work. At the same time, the company will establish a foundation model support group. I, Jingren, and Yu Fan will jointly coordinate group resources to support the development of foundation models.

Technical progress means moving forward, not standing still. Developing large foundation models is a key strategic step for our future. While continuing to adhere to the open-source model strategy, we will steadily increase R&D investment in the field of artificial intelligence and step up efforts to attract outstanding talent. Let’s work hard together.

Eddie Wu Yongming
