Apple's smart home hardware executive departs, after previously facing product delays
PhoenixNet Tech News, Beijing Time March 18 — According to Bloomberg, the Apple executive responsible for hardware engineering of smart home devices has left the company, transferring to the smart ring manufacturer Oura Health Oy—an удар for a department already facing product delays.
Oura CEO Tom Hale told Bloomberg on Tuesday that Brian Lynch, who has served as Apple’s senior director of smart home devices since 2022, has joined the company as senior vice president of hardware engineering.
In recent years, Apple has been preparing a major push into the smart home technology field, planning to launch a high-end display equipped with AI and facial recognition features. According to Bloomberg, Apple is also developing a desktop robot device with a 9-inch display, as well as an advanced home security and automation sensor.
Lynch has been responsible for the hardware development of these new devices. Apple originally planned to release this smart display last year, but the product has been delayed multiple times due to difficulties in overhauling Siri. The voice assistant needs to be updated to provide personalized data for the device—it is crucial.
As of the time of publication, Apple declined to comment. (Author/Xiao Yu)
