High oil prices crush public opinion, with 2/3 of Americans abandoning Trump's war objectives; the dollar faces downward pressure.
Huitong Finance APP News——The latest survey shows that two-thirds of Americans believe the U.S. should strive to end its involvement in the Iran war as soon as possible, even if that means it cannot achieve the goals set by the Trump administration. In a survey conducted from last Friday to Sunday (March 27–29), about 66% of respondents held this view, 27% said all goals should be achieved even if the conflict lasts longer, and 6% did not answer.
This poll collected feedback from 1,021 respondents, reflecting that Americans are increasingly fatigued by ongoing military involvement and growing concerns about its impact on the domestic economy.
Differences in party positions
Among Republicans, 40% support ending the conflict quickly even if U.S. goals cannot be achieved, while 57% support extending the period of involvement to achieve all goals. This data indicates that even among Trump supporters, there are significant divisions.
Democrats and independent voters show higher support for ending the war quickly; overall public opinion tends to avoid prolonged conflict. The survey highlights that U.S. domestic consensus on the Iran war is shifting toward “wrapping it up as soon as possible.”
Attitudes toward military strikes
The survey also shows that 60% of respondents do not support the U.S. conducting military strikes against Iran, while 35% say they do support. This opposition rate is consistent with the results of several recent polls, reflecting public doubts about the necessity of war and its long-term costs.
Gasoline prices surge
GasBuddy, a price tracking service, shows that one of the most significant impacts of this war on the U.S. is the increase in gasoline prices. This rise is directly related to global crude oil price fluctuations caused by disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz supply and attacks on oil tankers. It has become an important factor affecting everyday spending for ordinary American households.
The soaring gasoline prices further amplify public economic dissatisfaction with the war, prompting more people to support ending the conflict as soon as possible.

Public opinion background analysis
Against the backdrop of Trump repeatedly saying he may withdraw from Iran in two to three weeks, and claiming that gasoline prices will fall sharply after troop withdrawal, this poll result provides important public opinion input for White House decision-making. With public concerns about the economic burden and casualties that a long war may bring—along with rising domestic energy costs—“ending it as soon as possible” has become the mainstream voice.
Although some Republicans still insist on achieving all goals, the overall public opinion trend shows that American society’s patience for the Iran war is rapidly fading.
Analysis of the impact on the U.S. dollar
This poll shows that 66% of Americans support ending the Iran war as soon as possible even if the goals cannot be fully achieved, reflecting strong public dissatisfaction with high oil prices and the economic burden. This public opinion pressure may prompt the Trump administration to accelerate troop withdrawal; withdrawal expectations would increase downward impetus for oil prices, which in turn may ease inflationary pressure and weaken the U.S. dollar’s appeal as a safe haven. Therefore, if the U.S. side follows public opinion and ends the conflict quickly, the dollar may face renewed downward adjustment pressure in the short term.
On Wednesday during the Asia market session, the U.S. dollar index oscillated in a narrow range around 99.80. Earlier, the dollar index had fallen sharply on the previous trading day, with an intraday decline of 0.61%.

Editor’s summary
The poll shows that 66% of Americans support ending the war against Iran as soon as possible even if the goals are not fully met. Meanwhile, 60% do not support military strike actions, and the high-level fluctuations in gasoline prices have further intensified economic pressure. Although there are differences within the Republican Party, the overall public opinion is clear in pointing toward avoiding a prolonged conflict. This outcome may affect the Trump administration’s subsequent troop-withdrawal timeline and negotiation strategy, highlighting the U.S. public’s sensitive response to the costs of war.
At 11:06 Beijing time, the U.S. dollar index is currently at 99.79.
