According to 1M AI News, OpenAI updated ChatGPT on March 31 to include CarPlay support, making it the first major AI tool to launch a dedicated CarPlay application. Users must upgrade their iPhone to iOS 16.4 or higher, which was released last week and is the first version to include ‘voice conversation applications’ in the list of apps permitted for CarPlay, requiring developers to apply for special authorization from Apple to integrate. The CarPlay version of ChatGPT operates entirely through voice interaction, without displaying text or images, adhering to Apple’s safety design guidelines for driving scenarios. The interface features only ‘End’ and ‘Mute’ buttons and allows users to view a history of voice conversations. Currently, there is no wake word; users must manually open the application on the CarPlay interface to use it, and ChatGPT cannot control vehicle functions or iPhone operations. For users looking for hands-free questioning while driving, this offers a new option beyond Siri. Apple’s integration rules are open to all third-party voice AI applications, with ChatGPT being the first to implement them.
