Optical-controlled ultra-high-speed computer created

Led by Politecnico di Milano in Italy, a team composed of organizations including the Institute of Photonics and Nanotechnology Research of the Italian National Research Council has developed a light-controlled ultrafast computer. The team used femtosecond laser pulses to achieve ultrafast logic operations in a new type of two-dimensional semiconductor material. This achievement first confirmed that light can not only transmit information but also be used directly to process information. Its operation speed is more than 100 times faster than the fastest existing electronic devices, opening a new pathway for breakthroughs in future computer performance. The related paper was published in the latest issue of the journal Nature Photonics.
