Middle East Situation | Iranian President reportedly to issue an open letter to the American people
The United States and Israel’s military strikes against Iran entered their 33rd day on Wednesday. In a statement posted on social media, an Iranian official said that President Masoud Pezeshkian will issue, within a few hours, an open letter to the American people.
Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi again made a public appearance, taking part in a rally held in Tehran, the capital, late on Tuesday, where they celebrated with the public Iran’s Islamic Republic Day on April 1. Pezeshkian said that Iran has the necessary will to end the war, provided the other side meets Iran’s demands, in particular by making the necessary assurances of non-aggression.
Pezeshkian last appeared on the streets of Tehran on Iran’s Holy City Day, when he attended an event together with Ali Larijani, the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council. A few days later, Larijani was killed in airstrikes by the United States and Israel.
Earlier, Iran’s foreign ministry spokesperson Nasser Baghae‘i said that Iran had received messages from intermediaries saying the United States wants to resolve the issue through diplomatic channels, but experience shows that “the United States is not serious about diplomacy.” He also said that remarks attributed to U.S. President Trump about Iran’s request for a ceasefire are “false and baseless.”
