BYD Releases 2025 ESG Report, Actively Fulfilling Sustainability Commitments

On March 27, BYD released its 2025 Sustainability Report, providing a comprehensive and systematic disclosure of the company’s strategic plans, practical achievements, and long-term commitments in the fields of environment, society, and governance (ESG). In 2025, BYD issued the DREAMS sustainability development philosophy, composed of six pillars: “green and low-carbon, innovative transformation, equal opportunities, collaborative cooperation, integrity and upholding principles, and value sharing.” Meanwhile, BYD’s MSCI ESG rating rose to AA, its S&P ESG Score (ESG Score) increased to 60 points, placing it among the first tier of Chinese companies; it also won domestic and international ESG awards such as Forbes China’s 50 list and the Best Practices Case for Listed Companies’ Sustainable Development.

**　Moving forward green, staying true to our original aspiration,** anchored to the core goal of “achieving carbon neutrality across the full value chain by 2045,” BYD’s “three major green dreams” have footprints around the world: in 2025, annual sales of new energy vehicles reached 4.6 million units, topping the global chart for new energy vehicle sales again; the cumulative shipment volume of energy storage systems exceeded 135GWh, and in 2025 energy storage system shipments ranked first globally; BYD’s solar power products were successfully selected for the BloombergNEF (BNEF) Tier1 list of global first-tier photovoltaic module manufacturers. In 2025, the carbon emissions reduction achieved in the energy production and usage stages of new energy vehicles—compared with conventional gasoline vehicles—amounted to 46.6 million tons, equivalent to planting 776.6 million trees, cooling the Earth by 1℃ through concrete action. In 2025, BYD used 7.29 billion kWh of clean electricity through the purchase of green power and green certificates, making it onto the Top 100 List of China’s Green Power Consumption, ranking first among Chinese automakers. BYD’s three major industrial parks were included in the first batch of national-level zero-carbon parks, systematically promoting low-carbon transformation at the manufacturing end.

In terms of fulfilling social responsibility, BYD’s total domestic tax contribution reached RMB 53.3 billion, and its 2025 donation expenditures totaled RMB 157 million. BYD launched a 3 billion education charitable foundation, focusing on supporting university scholarships and science popularization of new energy vehicle technologies; it signed donation agreements with 127 universities nationwide, encouraging more than 6,000 students. BYD has built a diverse and inclusive workplace environment, focusing on employee development, strengthening talent retention, and achieving 100% employee insurance coverage. In 2025, BYD received multiple honors, including “Forbes Global Best Employers” and “Forbes Global Best Companies for Women to Work For.”

BYD continues to deepen technological research and development. In 2025, its R&D investment amounted to RMB 63.4 billion, accounting for 7.89% of operating revenue; it had 120,000 R&D personnel and globally accumulated 71,094 patent applications. Guided by the development philosophy of “technology is king and innovation is the foundation,” BYD has introduced leading technologies such as the super e-platform. Over the past three years, more than 19 models have earned NCAP domestic and international five-star/five-star+ safety ratings, using new technologies, high standards, and strong real-world capabilities to protect users’ driving and riding safety, continuously driving the development of the new energy industry.

In the future, BYD will continue to deepen the DREAMS philosophy through pragmatic action, meet challenges, seize opportunities, and integrate sustainable development throughout the entire business process. We will redouble our efforts, work hand in hand with global partners, and continue to turn the vision of “cooling the Earth by 1℃” into reality through solid technology and open collaboration.
