Chery Land Rover FREELANDER and Discovery tomorrow release, with the official hinting that the new vehicle is equipped with Huawei 896-line laser radar.

IT Home reports on March 30: The all-new brand “FREELANDER Freelander” co-developed by Chery Automobile and Jaguar Land Rover will be officially unveiled tomorrow (March 31), and the brand’s first model will make its debut at the same time.

Today, FREELANDER Freelander has officially linked up with Huawei’s HarmonyOS intelligent vehicle solution. The images suggest that the new car will be equipped with Huawei’s 896-line dual-beam pathway laser radar, which was released globally for mass production at the beginning of this month.

According to information, this laser radar integrates two laser receiving units with different focal bands, enabling ultra-long-distance recognition of targets 14 centimeters in size at a distance of 120 meters, including low obstacles such as rubble and traffic cones. Its 896-line dual-beam pathway architecture’s single-frame point cloud output reaches 7 times that of 128-line products. Its perception capability jumps from a “point cloud level” to an “image level,” significantly improving the vehicle’s recognition accuracy and reaction speed in extreme scenarios such as “ghost vehicle detection pods” and stationary malfunctioning cars.

IT Home has learned that on June 19, 2024, Chery Automobile and Jaguar Land Rover signed a strategic cooperation intent agreement to launch and manufacture a series of electric products equipped with Chery’s electrification platforms, using the “Freelander” brand authorized by Jaguar Land Rover. And the Freelander brand from Jaguar Land Rover, which has not been updated for more than 10 years, has been revived through the Chery T1X platform and upgraded into a brand-new independent new-energy brand.

Combined with earlier reports, the new car is built on Chery E0X pure-electric platform. It has a length of over 5.1 meters, uses a 2+2+2 six-seat layout, comes standard with an air suspension + L2-level assisted driving, and offers dual powertrains of pure electric / range-extended. Pure-electric models will support 800V high-voltage fast charging.

The new car will fill the product gap for the joint venture between Jaguar Land Rover and Chery, taking the place of models such as the Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque, which are scheduled to be discontinued in China this year. In addition, the Chery Jaguar Land Rover Changshu plant will add multiple new vehicles, with a planned investment of 3 billion yuan, and production is expected to begin in 2026.
