Li Auto's "Smart Supercharging Power Battery Beijing Key Laboratory" Officially Unveiled
March 30, the Ideals “Beijing Key Laboratory of Intelligent Ultra-Fast Charging Power Batteries” (hereinafter referred to as the “Ideal Intelligent Ultra-Fast Charging Battery Key Laboratory”) officially held its unveiling ceremony and academic symposium at Ideal’s Beijing R&D headquarters.
The academic symposium brought together experts and scholars from top institutions including the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Tsinghua University, Beijing Institute of Technology, and more, to conduct in-depth exchanges around cutting-edge directions such as solid-state batteries, lithium-battery AI technology, battery thermal safety, and structural safety.
“Since 2018, Ideal has already begun pre-research in the ultra-fast charging field, with the goal of addressing users’ charging anxiety. To date, around the technologies related to the ultra-fast charging field, Ideal has accumulated more than 1,700 patents, and has built a full-chain R&D platform of ‘materials–cell–system–algorithms.’ By relying on real data from over a million users, it continues to optimize intelligent charging algorithms, covering core real user scenarios such as daily commuting, long-distance travel, and high-speed charging.” Liu Guo, Senior Vice President of Whole Vehicle Electrification at Ideal, said, “Ideal always insists on technological innovation, taking intelligent ultra-fast charging as a core strategic direction, and conducting in-depth research around two major areas: high-energy-density ultra-fast charging battery technology and AI-integrated battery safety technology. Ideal Ultra-Fast Charging:
Breaking through the technical boundaries of high energy density
The Ideal Intelligent Ultra-Fast Charging Battery Key Laboratory focuses on ultra-fast charging technology research. Ideal has proposed the “three bests” goals for ultra-fast charging cells: “the fastest, the highest, and the safest.” When users are generally deterred from pure electric vehicles because charging speeds often take more than half an hour, and even several hours, in 2024 Ideal was the first to release 5C ultra-fast charging technology. The “fastest” makes it possible to achieve a charging speed of “charging in 12 minutes and adding 500 kilometers of range,” and in 2025 it will further speed up to “charging in 10 minutes and adding 500 kilometers of range.” At the same time, Ideal is committed to achieving “the highest” battery energy density, enabling longer driving range, and ensuring that the final products delivered to users are “the safest.”
Behind the “three bests” goals is innovation by Ideal’s power battery R&D team, from cell materials and formulations to manufacturing processes. Years of technical accumulation have resulted in more than 400 patents in the cell field, with 72 already authorized by the state. More importantly, these technologies are not papers lying in a laboratory—they are truly installed in every Ideal vehicle.

AI-integrated battery safety:
Building a full-dimensional, full-lifecycle safety protection system
With the core philosophy of “defining safety standards by user scenarios,” Ideal has developed a full-stack, self-researched “Cloud Shield + Lianshan” coordinated protection system, integrating AI into battery safety management to build a comprehensive safety system with 130 standards and 951 tests. As the “AI butler” that guards in real time, “Cloud Shield” achieves millisecond-level analysis through three-end data fusion of “vehicle–charger–cloud,” enabling it to identify potential risks up to 72 hours in advance. After issues are discovered, it pushes messages to remind users. “Lianshan,” meanwhile, will establish a “lifelong file” for the battery—starting from when the battery leaves the factory, it records all data for every charge, discharge, and temperature change. It preserves the data for 15 years and supports real-time retrieval, enabling intelligent safety management across the battery’s full lifecycle from the moment it leaves the factory.
In the future, the Ideal Intelligent Ultra-Fast Charging Battery Key Laboratory will continue to tackle high-density and fast-charging solid-state batteries, full-state intelligent battery management, and high-safety battery technologies for L4-level autonomous driving. It will promote the dual-engine drive of “applied basic research + industrial deployment,” continuously transforming technological innovation into travel experiences that users can perceive and trust.
