Chow Tai Seng stores sell "Chow Tai Gold" rings. The involved jewelry store has issued a refund and compensation. The person in charge: "The customer was too urgent, so we sourced the goods from another store."
According to reports from multiple media outlets, recently, a Ms. Wu in Jiangsu (a pseudonym) complained online that the gold ring she bought at a Zhou Dasheng store had “Zhou Da Jin” stamped on the inside.
Rings stamped with Zhou Da Jin
Ms. Wu said that on February 21, she and her best friend went to a Zhou Dasheng store in Taizhou, Jiangsu, to buy a gold ring priced at 7,300 yuan. Feeling that the band size was a bit too large, she wanted to exchange it at the store; her best friend also decided to buy this same ring. On February 22, after they arrived at the store, the store said there was no suitable ring size in stock, but they could place an order with the headquarters for the goods.
On February 27, Ms. Wu’s husband picked up the new ring from the store. When Ms. Wu returned home, she found that the warranty card did not include a gram weight figure, the amount was also incorrect, and the ring had no price tag. On March 1, the store issued a new warranty card. Based on her trust in the Zhou Dasheng brand, she simply re-confirmed the gram weight and did not dwell on the price tag issue.
The store says the stamping was wrong
What Ms. Wu did not expect was that a few days later, she accidentally found that the inner band of the ring read “Zhou Da Jin.” After asking her best friend, she learned that the stamp on her best friend’s ring inside also read “Zhou Da Jin.” Ms. Wu believed that what she bought was definitely not an authentic product and hoped the store would compensate her according to the “triple compensation for counterfeits” standard.
On March 29, the reporter contacted Ms. Wu. She said that through coordination by the market regulatory authorities, they had already reached a consensus through negotiation: the store refunded the 7,300 yuan for the ring and additionally compensated 12,000 yuan. The ring of her best friend was refunded 5,319 yuan, with an additional compensation of 9,000 yuan. The reporter also noticed on the platform of the Black Cat Complaints [Download the Black Cat Complaints client] that at 17:14 on March 25, after receiving the transfer, two-plus minutes later, the complainant confirmed that the complaint had been completed.
Store refund and transfer record
The reporter then also contacted the person in charge of the store involved, who said that because they were being pushed too urgently by the customer, they had sourced a matching ring from the Zhou Da Jin store they operated themselves and sent it over. The matter has already been resolved through the official platform.
The reporter also called Zhou Dasheng’s 400 customer service line. The operator said they had not received any related information. The reporter also called the market regulatory department of Gaogang District multiple times, but no one answered.
